Some specific information about the Dive Rite Nomad XT.
All the current sizing charts do not work!!!!! All Nomad XTs have the same size wing and soft back plate. The only difference between the sizes is the length of the shoulder pads and the length of the webbing. For the best fit your shoulder pad should extend down to the bottom of your chest muscle so the d-rings can be positioned appropriately. The lower d-ring should be just above your nipple and the upper d-ring should be near the top of your pectoralis (chest) muscle. Unfortunately, many dive shops that sell Nomads, but don't dive sidemount everyday like we do here at Cave Adventurers, don't understand how to size a Nomad and if they go by the Dive Rite Transpac size chart, the customer ends up with a Nomad that is 1-2 sizes too small. We've seen this often when people show up here for training with a Nomad bought somewhere else. What this does is places the d-rings on top of the shoulder.
The Nomad is designed so there is about 7.5 inches of shoulder pad that extends from the back portion of the harness to the top center of your shoulder. In order to get the correct size, you need to measure from top center of your shoulder (even with the bottom of your ear lobe) to the bottom of your chest muscle. Add 7.5 inches and you will have which shoulder pad length you need. The shoulder pads on a Med are approximately 13.5 inches long. Each larger size is about 2 inches longer. Women with large breasts usually want shorter shoulder pads for comfort.
For example, if the measurement from the top center of your shoulder to the bottome of your pectoralis muscle is 8 inches, you will need a Large Nomad XT. If you are at least 3/4 of an inch longer we recommend going with the next size up so you have the longer webbing.
The Nomad XT is designed a little differently than the original Nomad. If you are replacing an original Nomad with a Nomad XT you will likely need one size larger. If you prefer to buy a Nomad EXP, measure yourself for a Nomad XT and order one size smaller.
